Course Maintanance and Irrigation

L & N Golf Management Ltd Course Improvement Program…2011/12

We have started a programme to revitalise all of the greens on the course. Until recently it has not been possible to irrigate the greens, in order for the treatment to work it is vital that we can water the greens when required and not just rely on the weather. Simple irrigation has been added to the course to enable us to water during treatments and also during dry spells allowing us to keep the greens in good playing condition. This was the issue for many players of the course.
We now have established a better playing surface within 6 weeks of commencement of works and we are looking to maintaining this playing surface and improving it for the future.
Irrigation…..comes to Greys Green….greens!!

‘We love playing at Greys Green because the course design is excellent,

the wildlife and countryside are so beautiful and it is so peaceful…..it’s a shame about the greens’

If we had a penny let alone a pound for every time we heard a customer mention the above statement, we would be a very prosperous company….The poor green quality is mainly due to the lack of water/irrigation system especially throughout the ‘hot’ summer months.

L & N Golf Management’s core commitment for now and the future, is to eradicate this problem as quickly as possible.

‘We wish to create a very good standard of putting green for now and the future, and our commitment to this vision begins today! (Neil Warner – Director L & N Golf Management Ltd)

Therefore…..our first investment project was to commence Phase 1 of our irrigation installation program throughout the months of August and September 2011.

After a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears….and the odd rain dance by our Head Green keeper, John…we are proud to announce that our simple but effective irrigation system now successfully operates throughout the 9 Hole Blue Intermediate Course and the Front 9 of the Red Course.

Golf Course Maintenance moves into Top Gear……

L & N Golf Management’s commitment to Greys Green Golf Course is quite clear….

‘To provide an excellent ‘Pay & Play’ golf facility in what is already a beautiful, picturesque and relaxed environment’

We have now commenced our stringent long term greens maintenance program and can already see a drastic improvement to most if not all putting surfaces.

Scarifying – Heavy scarification has removed a lot of the thatch, lateral growth and moss allowing the healthy grass to spread and grow.

Vredo Over seeder Technology used at GGGC

After working intensively with the best Green keepers throughout many top courses in Europe, this over seeder has been especially developed for greens and teeing grounds at golf courses to deliver an inter-row grass seed dispersion distance of only 3.5cm. This is a far more effective than other standard over seeders, delivering maximum seed germination and growth whilst protecting all existing turf and grassed areas…..in other words it’s a top-notch machine to help get the greens in far better shape as quickly as we can!!!!

Top Dressing….by hand….by machine….for better greens!!

Top dressing is the process of applying a fine layer of a high quality mix of soil and sand to the surface of the greens. Long term top dressing helps to create a level true putting surface, improves surface drainage as it encourages quicker water movement, improves drought resistance through deep root water retention, dilutes and encourages the natural breakdown and decomposition of the thatch layer and inspires shoot growth resulting in a thicker, tight knit sward, therefore reducing the invasion of weeds and moss…..everything the greens at GGGC require…

And Finally….

The addition of a good fertiliser and plenty of water helps to complete the process but only until the next time…!!
